The Director leads BTVI’s fundraising and alumni strategies by executing a major capital campaign, securing high-level donor partnerships, and meeting revenue targets to drive sustainable growth and elevate the institute's public profile.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Fundraising and Alumni Affairs is a results-driven leadership role responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including a major capital campaign to secure financial resources aligned with the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute’s (BTVI) strategic priorities.

This role requires a highly credible, externally-facing professional who can confidently engage corporate executives, high net-worth individuals, alumni and national stakeholders. The Director will lead efforts to expand BTVI’s donor base and generate sustainable revenue growth through strategic partnerships and targeted fundraising initiatives and assist in building BTVI’s public image.

The Director is directly accountable for achieving Board-approved annual fundraising targets and capital campaign goals with performance measured against defined revenue and pipeline metrics. Additionally, strengthening alumni engagement and elevating BTVI’s profile within the national, international and corporate community.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising Strategy and Capital Campaign Execution

  • Develop and implement a 3–5-year fundraising strategy, including a capital campaign plan with defined financial targets, timelines and milestones.
  • Establish annual fundraising goals (overall and by category: major gifts, corporate, grants, alumni giving).
  • Lead the planning, launch and execution of capital campaigns, including campaign messaging, case for support and donor segmentation.
  • Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership and the Board, including pipeline status and revenue forecasts.

Major Gifts and Corporate Engagement

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and corporate partners, with a focus on gifts at defined thresholds (e.g., $25K, $50K, $100K+).
  • Personally manage a portfolio of high-value prospects, with clear expectations for meetings, proposals and conversions.
  • Represent BTVI at high-level engagements, demonstrating professional presence and credibility with executives and decision-makers.
  • Develop corporate partnership packages aligned with workforce development, training and national priorities.
  • Collaborate directly with the President in the cultivation and solicitation of top-tier donors and strategic corporate partners, including joint engagement for high-value gifts.

Alumni Relations and Engagement

  • Design and implement a structured alumni engagement strategy with measurable participation goals.
  • Increase alumni giving through targeted campaigns, events and communications.
  • Strengthen alumni data systems to support segmentation, outreach and tracking of engagement outcomes.

Donor Pipeline and Relationship Management

  • Lead and be accountable for prospect research, donor qualification and pipeline development.
  • Ensure consistent execution of the donor lifecycle: identification/cultivation/ solicitation/stewardship.
  • Implement systems to track donor interactions, commitments and retention rates.

Campaign Marketing and Public Image

  • Lead fundraising messaging and campaign positioning in collaboration with External Relations.
  • Ensure all fundraising initiatives reinforce BTVI’s brand, credibility, and community reputation.
  • Lead the development of high-quality proposals, presentations and donor communications.
  • Ensure all external engagements, communications and donor interactions reflect the highest standards of professionalism, protecting and enhancing BTVI’s reputation.

Performance Management and Reporting

  • Establish and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including:
  • Provide monthly and quarterly performance reports through the President to the Board.
  • Use data to adjust strategies and improve outcomes.
  • Maintain an active portfolio of high-value prospects, including a minimum of 6-10 substantive donor engagements per month.

Financial Oversight

  • Develop and manage the fundraising budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with financial controls, reporting standards and donor accountability requirements.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Relations or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of proven success in fundraising, sales, business development or corporate relations, with demonstrated results
  • Experience leading or supporting a capital fundraising campaign is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in engaging senior executives and closing high-value deals or gifts
  • Experience with CRM/fundraising systems and data-driven campaign management
