The Enrolled Assistant Nurse will be responsible for providing skilled nursing care for clients/family. The Enrolled Assistant Nurse will apply skills in specialized areas geared to individual needs.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma in Enrolled Assistant Nursing from a recognized learning institution. 
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse 

 

Specific Knowledge/Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of Enrolled Assistant Nursing Practices & Principles 
  • Thorough knowledge of Nursing, Health and related legislation 
  • Knowledge of the Staff Orders for the Public Service 
  • Good written and oral communication skills. 

 

Key Responsibilities includes:

  • Assists with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients. 
  • Explains hospital rules and routines to patients. 
  • Shares responsibility for a safe and comfortable environment for the patient, 
  • Assists in moving and turning, getting in and out of bed, positioning and walking as needed. 
  • Assists with the transportation of patients. 
  • Maintains personal hygiene of the patient according to the needs and condition, for example, bathing, cutting nails, combing hair, oral hygiene. 
  • Assists with the preparation of patient’s meals and in the feeding of patients. 
  • Assists the patient in dressing and undressing. 
  • Gives, removes, and cleans bedpans and urinals, 
  • Charges linen and makes beds. 
  • Checks and observes temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressures of patients as well as documents results and reports abnormalities.
  • Measures heights and weights. 
  • Observes and documents symptoms, reactions, attitudes, and changes in the patients' condition.
  • Prepares patients for, and assists doctors and nurses in examination, treatment and diagnostic tests. 
  • Shares responsibility for the control of infection 
  • Prepares instruments and equipment for storage and for sterilization. 
  • Sterilizes instruments and equipment. 
  • Receives, checks and stores supplies. 
  • Carries out medical treatment as authorized. Carry out dressings. 
  • Assists in the patients’ rehabilitation by education and advice regarding good health practices.
  • Participates in all measures relating to safety of patients and their property.
  • Promotes good interpersonal relations and public confidence. 

 

Special Conditions Associated with the Job:

  • Required to work on shift system 
  • Standing/walking for prolonged hours
