The incumbent collaborates with faculty to lead teaching and curriculum development, teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervises clinical training, conducts impactful research, and supports University assessment activities.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a Master’s degree in Special Needs Dentistry or equivalent with a DDS or BDS from a recognized university.

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • A good record of research and publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
  • At least three (3) years’ teaching experience in the field of Special Care Dentistry at an undergraduate level in one or more of the following areas: 
    • Management of patients with physical, sensory, intellectual, mental, medical or social impairment
    • Provision of oral health care in patients with complex/additional needs
    • Gerodontology
    • Management of medical emergencies
    • Medico-legal issues in the management of special care patients
    • Advocacy for patients with special needs 
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas:   
    • Oral Health Care of persons with physical or intellectual disabilities
    • General Anaesthesia or Sedation care of persons requiring special care
    • Management of medically compromised patients
    • Gerodontology
  • Candidates with prior success in formulating research questions, designing research methodology, collecting and analyzing data would have an advantage.

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Evidence of prior success in attracting external research and development funding
  • Evidence of programme or project design, development and implementation

Candidate should be registered or be eligible to be registered with the Dental Council of Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Working closely with staff in the Faculty of Medical Sciences in providing quality leadership in teaching and curriculum development
  • Teaching undergraduate students
  • Teaching and supervising Dental Interns
  • Undertaking clinical supervision 
  • Participating in clinically oriented problem-based learning activities
  • Supporting University assessment and examination activities
  • Conducting impactful research and publications
  • Teaching and supervising vocational trainees and postgraduates when required
  • Conducting administrative duties as required
