The incumbent teaches undergraduate and postgraduate Environmental Science courses, supervises research students, and maintains a productive research programme while seeking grant funding.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognized university which should be in Environmental Science or a closely related field.

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • At least three (3) years’ teaching experience at the undergraduate level in the field of Environmental Science or a closely related discipline
  • A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer reviewed journals
  • Evidence of ongoing research in the area of expertise, including tropical environmental scientific experience
  • Evidence of success in securing external research funding and pursuing independent research
  • Evidence of success in coordinating and overseeing an environmental science laboratory

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Experience in teaching and research at a doctoral level
  • Experience in the teaching and supervision of postgraduate students at the MSc, MPhil and PhD levels
  • Experience in management of laboratories
  • Proficiency in teaching and research in at least one (1) of the following areas:
    • Environmental Pollution
    • Climate Change
    • Environmental Monitoring
    • Environmental Policy

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Research experience in Environmental Sciences

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to Environmental Sciences
  • Supervising research students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Developing and maintaining a productive research programme in the area of Environmental Science and Technologies, including actively seeking grant funding from external sources
  • Coordinating and overseeing an environmental science laboratory
  • Facilitating interdisciplinary research among related disciplines in the Department, Faculty and other Faculties within the University
  • Establishing linkages locally and regionally in order to provide technical and scientific support to the environmental sector
  • Performing administrative duties relating to teaching and learning, research or other areas within the Department
  • Participating in Departmental and University committees and initiatives
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his delegate
