The incumbent teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervises MSc, MPhil and PhD students, develops curricula, and provides academic leadership in Thermodynamics.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognised university, which should be in Mechanical Engineering or Biosystems or Agricultural Engineering, or an equivalent in a closely related field.

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Membership in a Professional Engineering Association
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in an equivalent or related discipline in the field of Engineering, at a recognized tertiary institution or university
  • Good record of research and publications in reputable peer reviewed journals
  • Proficiency in teaching and managing courses related to Thermodynamics
  • Proven ability to manage large groups of students 

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Postgraduate qualification or an equivalent in a related field
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate student projects at the MSc, MPhil and PhD levels
  • Experience in integrating theory and practice
  • Significant knowledge of the Thermodynamics arm of Mechanical Engineering

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Industry experience
  • Significant attraction of research funding

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Supervising postgraduate students at the MSc, MPhil and PhD levels
  • Planning, developing and delivering course material (lectures, laboratory, tutorials, examinations, and reporting artefacts)
  • Ensuring the quality of preparation and grading of examinations, assignments and laboratories for assigned courses
  • Providing leadership and vision in developing teaching and research in Thermodynamics that will impact the Caribbean region and can have other international impact
  • Attracting external research and development funding
  • Coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and providing academic advising and supervision for undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Fostering intra/inter Faculty/Campus teaching and research networks
  • Serving on Committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels 

 

Personal Attributes:
