The incumbent conducts and supervises research on early life experiences and development, designs interventions, teaches and mentors graduate students, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to enhance research impact.

 

 Responsibilities:

The Job holder may be required to perform all or any of the following duties:

  • Develop research proposals to conduct research on the impact of early life experiences and early development across the life course;
  • Design and evaluate interventions that promote children’s development particularly among disadvantaged and vulnerable populations;
  • Participate in and/or supervise research team(s);
  • Contribute to teaching on CAIHR graduate programmes;
  • Supervise postgraduate research students and postgraduate fellows;
  • Conduct collaborative projects with other researchers within the CAIHR and other relevant university departments;
  • Interact with external stakeholders to facilitate translations and impact of research output;
  • Any other related responsibilities as assigned by the Director Epidemiology Research Unit or Director, CAIHR

 

Essential Qualifications And Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree from a recognized University in Health Sciences including Psychology with research focus in Child Development OR medical degree with graduate training in Child Development or related area;
  • Demonstrated scholarly research as evidenced by peer review publications.

Candidates who possess the following will be at a distinct advantage:

  • Experience in design, conduct and evaluation of interventions to promote cognitive and/or socio-emotional development;
  • Experience in assessment of child development and behavior;
  • Proven ability to manage field research projects and train project staff including paraprofessionals;
  • Proven ability to prepare grant proposals and obtain funding;
  • Experience in management of large data sets and conduct of multivariate analysis;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to interact well with students, staff and stakeholders.
