Library Assistant - Natural History Museum of Jamaica

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Organizes catalogues and books lists emanating from scientific organizations and publishers of relevant material.
• Prepares orders for print and non- printed materials and library supplies.
• Maintains accurate records of receipts of materials.
• Maintains correspondence files.
• Assists the Librarian with the cataloguing and classification of basic bibliographic elements on catalogue cards according to international standards.
• Assists the Librarian in the preparation of bibliographies, book lists and current awareness of material for staff and public distribution.
• Monitors the collection of materials requiring binding, other repairs and or replacement.
• Prepares in collaboration with the Librarian, reference query forms and completes such forms for uses in the library.
• Prepares photocopies for reference material.
• Ensures that the books are placed correctly on the shelves.
• Enters catalogue cards in a database for the library
• Maintains and catalogues photographs for the database

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Five (5) CXC or GCE O level subjects including English Language
• A Library Technical Assistant Certificate would be an asset
• One (1) year’s working experience in an established library, under the supervision of a professional Librarian would be an asset.
