The Maintenance Technician will implement, upgrade, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install equipment and control systems. The incumbent will report any electrical or mechanical faults promptly and recommends corrective measures accordingly.

 

Key Responsibilities Areas

Management/Administrative Responsibilities: 

  • Prepares and submits monthly/quarterly report as necessary 
  • Prepares inventory of tools and equipment and machinery 
  • Reviews, revises, and develops maintenance policies and procedures in keeping with established guidelines 
  • Provides guidance/advise to the Director, Property and Fixed Assets on maintenance matters/issues to facilitate decision-making 

Technical Responsibilities 

  • Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains facility equipment according to the safety standards which comply with all Government guidelines 
  • Ensures the servicing and maintenance of chill rooms including condensing units, electrical control panels and evaporators 
  • Conducts preventative maintenance and inspection to ensure efficient operation of all chill rooms 
  • Conducts maintenance and inspection of the standby generator
  • Conducts servicing and maintenance of the electrical lighting and fixtures, electrical power equipment and appliances, air conditioning units/systems, and refrigerated containers according to instruction from senior officers and equipment service manual 
  • Conducts minor electrical installations and repairs 
  • Ensures structural repairs, alterations, or improvement work performed as needed and in accordance with the Building Code of Jamaica 
  • Alerts the Property Manager of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or that may occur 
  • Maintains a 24-hour emergency maintenance service as scheduled
  • Responds to all maintenance service requests promptly 
  • Ensures disaster mitigation measures implemented and in accordance with ODPEM standards 
  • Assists in servicing and replacing minor plumbing, painting, and carpentry repair work 
  • Ensures standards compliance is established in electrical, plumbing, painting and carpentry work effected 
  • Assists in monitoring all works/special projects/assignment being performed by outside contractors 
  • Maintains machinery, equipment, and tools by cleaning, lubricating, or greasing to ensure optimum working order. 

Other 

  • Performs any other assignment by the Facilities Manager from time to time. 

 

Required Skills & Competence

  • Sound knowledge in plumbing, electrical repairs and building construction
  • Sound Knowledge of the operations of Government and the organization's policies and procedures 
  • Sound knowledge of the Building Code 4 of Jamaica 
  • Sound knowledge of Auto CAD and Microsoft applications 
  • Sound negotiating skills 
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and relevant database software
  • Sound written and oral communication skills 
  • Sound planning and organizing skills 
  • Good problem solving and conflict management skills 
  • Sound interpersonal skills 
  • Sound analytical skills and judgment 

 

Minimum Required Qualification and Experience

  • A minimum of a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation from HEART/NSTA TRUST or the equivalent 
  • Diploma/Certificate related to the skilled area. 
  • Possess knowledge and skills in the field of plumbing, electrical and painting, woodworking (furniture building and repairing) 
  • General Driver's License 
  • 2-3 years electrical maintenance experience 
  • Basic welding practices and techniques 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings 
  • Ability to write detailed repair reports

 

Special Conditions Associated with the job

  • This job will require some amount of travelling. 
  • Exposure to sun, dust, and chemicals
