The incumbent oversees radiation safety and patient care, performs diagnostic imaging, manages departmental staff and inventory, and ensures equipment maintenance and regulatory compliance.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer; the Manager, Medical Imaging Services develops strategies for the delivery of Imaging Services and direct and co-ordinate activities for the delivery of diagnostic imaging services within the specified Imaging Facility. The incumbent maintains acceptable standards of imaging practice, radiation protection and patient care among the staff while monitoring performance of all systems and technical equipment within the specified radiology Facility. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical/Administrative 

  • Manages the operations of the radiation area assigned to ensure judicious radiation protection and optimum patient care. 
  • Performs routine and emergency radiography according to International standards and as per clinical requisition. 
  • Ensures that results are provided to clinicians in a timely manner to facilitate efficient and effective patient care. 
  • Manages the staff assigned to the department by ensuring that: 
    • ? Staff adhere to standard operating procedures and safety standards 
    • ? Staff observes and adheres to the policies of the organization and the Code of Conduct (Staff Order for the Public Service). 
    • ? Claims for staff in the department is authorized and submitted to the appropriate office in a timely manner. 
    • ? Performance evaluation reports for staff in the department are completed in a timely manner 
    • ? Staff within the department is provided with the requisite tools to carry out the job, as well as personal protective equipment to ensure they work safely. 
  • Participates in the annual budget exercise ensuring that provisions are made to guarantee the efficient operation of the department. Manages the stock and sundries used in the department to ensure efficient utilization and availability at all times. 
  • Monitors the performance of imaging equipment and maintains relevant records.
  • Liaises with maintenance contractors and associated companies to ensure regular preventive maintenance and prompt corrective action. 
  • Ensures facility is compliant with the HSRA license at all times. 
  • Liaises with ward/clinic staff and other Heads of Departments to ensure optimum operations between departments 

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB:

  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours, weekends and public holidays.
  • Available to work during special events and disease outbreak. 

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • First Degree in Medical Diagnostic Imaging or equivalent 
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management. 
  • License with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine (CPSM).)
