The incumbent monitors dietary systems for patient updates, manages menus, communicates patient needs to staff, ensures menu accuracy, and operates the cafeteria cash register with secure handling of funds.

 

Overview

Under the supervision of the Food Services Supervisor and Food Services Manager, the Diet Technician / Cashier works toward the achievement of the department’s goals for providing high quality food services to patients, staff and the public. The post holder contributes to good fiscal management by ensuring that cashier functions are conducted in accordance with the BHB financial instructions.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring Dietary Food Management interface for admissions, discharges, transfers, allergies and diet changes
  • Ensuring menus are printed and distributed to patients in a timely manner and according to the Department policy
  • Communicating with dietary staff regarding patient needs based on computer generated reports
  • Receiving regular patient menus to ensure they have been completed properly and are able to be scanned correctly
  • Operating cash register during hours of cafeteria operation and secure monies at the end of each shift

 

Qualifications & Registration required:

  • High School Diploma with a minimum of two years’ experience in computerized clerical and food service setting
  • Certification in basic Food Service & Nutrition Courses is preferred
  • Ability to operate a cash register and balance funds at the end of each shift
  • Demonstrable computer skills, math skills
