The clinician provides patient-centered care by performing assessments, executing treatment plans, supervising support staff, and maintaining accurate documentation and productivity statistics in compliance with clinical standards and policies.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • meeting productivity standards set by the department for direct patient contact and other related non-patient contact duties
  • performing an appropriate assessment on all in and/or outpatients following referral; use objective clinical measures to identify problems and formulate treatment plans based on realistic stated goals; carry out specific therapeutic interventions as indicated ensuring that a client centered approach is employed throughout this process
  • supervising and delegating specific written treatment plans to aides, assistants, and/or students
  • observing and evaluating treatment effect; communicating patient progress or lack of to appropriate staff and physicians
  • maintaining patient documentation using the appropriate paper work, ensuring documentation meets current standards and policies; prepares specific clinical reports as requested
  • keeping accurate and timely statistics of both direct and indirect time spent and prepares specific clinical reports as required

 

Qualifications &/ registration required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required with certification, if applicable, in jurisdiction of training
  • 1 – 2 years post-graduate experience in a related Occupational Therapy environment, preferably within a hospital
  • Local registration to practice with the Council for Allied Health Professions (CAHP) and meet all re-registration requirements
  • Experience working within a psychiatric setting and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; liaison with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality service and continuity of care
  • Flexibility and creativity to accommodate the needs of the patients, care givers and Rehabilitation Team
  • Improvement of Occupational Therapy services within the service
  • Diplomacy, ability to delegate and supervise assistants, aides, and students
