The incumbent will be responsible for managing the parish Water Quality programme, to ensure compliance with the Ministry of Health’s policy and requirements and to promote the maintenance of standards for Water Quality Management.

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health / Diploma Public Health Inspection
  • Training in the relevant areas of specialty 
  • Supervisory Management Certification 
  • Registration with the Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine 
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience or 
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience 

 

Specific Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Public Health 
  • Knowledge of environmental science and preventative medicine 
  • Knowledge of Government’s health policies and programmes particularly in the delivery of primary health care 
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to public health and ability to interpret and apply them to health sanitation 

 

Responsibilities include but not limited:

  • Assesses and determines the sanitary status of water quality facilities to ensure compliance with standards and regulations 
  • Monitors water quality facilities routinely to ensure compliance with established standards. 
  • Collects and submits water samples for analysis during audits/special visits
  • Liaises with the Regional Environment Health Officer and reports health hazards and makes recommendations for corrective actions. 
  • Investigates complaints and takes appropriate actions. 
  • Collates data and makes submissions to the Chief Public Health Inspector, Deputy Chief Public Health Inspector and Regional Environmental Health Officer 
  • Organizes lectures and makes presentations on Water quality issues. 
  • Enforces the provisions of the Public Health Act and the requisite regulations to prevent or control the spread of water borne diseases. 
  • Implements and enforces policies and standards relating to water quality.
  • Conducts research and recommends systems to enhance water quality in public and environmental health 
  • Provides information relating to Water Quality for strategic and operational plans
