Under the general direction of the Medical Officer (Health), the incumbent is responsible for collection and testing of blood samples and body fluids, and for the recording of test results.

 

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • Four (4) CXCs including Mathematics, English and a Science subject, (or equivalent) Plus 
  • One (1) year working experience 
  • Training in Phlebotomy would be an asset 
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. 

 

Specific Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of the care and preservation of specimens. 
  • Knowledge of the care and maintenance of laboratory equipment. 

 

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Collecting blood samples, carries out qualitative screen of all blood serum, and performs tests.
  • Sorting and recording specimens/samples at testing site. 
  • Receiving and entering laboratory test result in appropriate records. 
  • Dispatching laboratory test results to health facilities and health care providers.
  • Preparing, stain and read bacteriological smears.
