Reviews construction reports, advises on heritage protection, supports DNPM in planning and cataloging discoveries, guides stakeholders on archaeological matters, and assists with related program tasks.

 

What you'll do

  • Analyze the reports of the construction companies in charge of the works on streets and public spaces and issue a recommendation note;
  • Provide prompt support for field projects and technical assistance to construction companies and other stakeholders to facilitate the work, ensure the protection of heritage, and adhere to program schedules;
  • Support the National Directorate of Monumental Heritage (DNPM) in the planning, cataloging, valuation and dissemination work related to any discoveries in the Colonial City;
  • Provide guidance on any topic or finding in other work on streets and public spaces, in the unlikely event that they appear in the context of other ongoing interventions (in homes, businesses, museums);
  • Any other tasks agreed upon between the parties related to the archaeology topic in the program.

Additionally, the consultant is expected to support the Bank, the Ministry of Tourism team, and the National Directorate of Monumental Heritage (DNPM) in the following complementary tasks:

  • Reflections and recommendations on archaeological topics near the next phase of intervention (Colonial City 3) – organization of archaeological work, strengthening national capacities in the field, collaboration with international organizations, specific products such as a digital catalog, etc.
  • Analysis and detail of the current proposal for an archaeological digital catalogue;
  • Any other tasks agreed upon by the parties related to the archaeology theme of the future program, or aimed at bringing sustainability to ongoing activities.

 

What you'll need

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in archaeology, art history, social sciences or similar field. 
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in archaeology, including expertise in the archaeology of the Americas and/or medieval and modern archaeology. Experience in preventive archaeology is appreciated. Experience in the Dominican Republic is highly valued.
  • Languages: Fluency in Spanish.

 

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of the Dominican Republic or a citizen of one of our 48 member countries, eligible to have valid residency or legal permission to work in the Dominican Republic without the need for sponsorship from the IDB.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including your spouse) who work at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
