The incumbent manages vaccine procurement and inventory, prepares program reports, monitors cold chain compliance, and updates the vaccination tracking system.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director, Family Health Services, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the development and implementation of immunization, vaccination projects and programmes for improving the health of families in Jamaica (National Level) and also to ascertain the achievement of established objectives and performance standards in alignment with family healthcare goals of the Ministry of Health & Wellness. 

               

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Key Outputs

  • Procedures, standards, and norms for the delivery of Family Health Services monitored; 
  • Monitoring reports prepared; 
  • Individual Work plan developed; 
  • Purchase orders for vaccines prepared; 
  • Vaccines inventory conducted and reports prepared;

Technical/Professional Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and submits narrative and statistical reports of programme activities to the Director; 
  • Prepares vaccine purchase orders and submits inventory reports monthly and quarterly to the Director, Family Health Services;
  • Procures Expanded Program for Immunization related supplies; 
  • Updates the web-based system for vaccination;
  • Monitors and evaluates the ‘Cold Chain’ (safety of vaccines) and supply levels of vaccines at the central storage site and other sites island wide

Technical Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of the theory and practice of nursing;
  • Knowledge of the National Health Policies, Standards and Regulations;
  • In-depth Knowledge of management principles and practices;
  • Sound knowledge of health care practices at the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary levels;
  • Knowledge of public health laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.Sc. in Public Health or Community Nursing; 
  • Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica;
  • A qualified registered midwife;
  • Ten (10) years working experience 

OR

  • Postgraduate Diploma/ Degree in Management/ Master of Public health or equivalent qualification;
  • Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica;
  • Seven (7) years post basic nursing experience with at least five (5) years progressive work experience at the managerial level.
