Public Health Inspector 2 (Port Health & Quarantine Officer) (HPC/EH 2) - St. James Public Health Services

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will also be expected to: 

• Enforce and maintain sanitation in and around the Port thereby reducing or eliminating sources from which infection thrive 
• Prevent entry, proliferation and dissemination of vectors and insects that may pose a severe risk to local flora and fauna 
• Prevent and control the entry and spread of communicable diseases (e.g cholera, yellow fever, small pox etc.) thus ensuring maximum security against international spread of diseases with minimum interference of international world traffic and trade 
• Monitor and report at risk travellers whom have visited disease endemic areas and may pose a public health hazard 
• Prevent entry and distribution of contaminated and adulterated imported meats and other foods
• Monitor food handling establishments to ensure food safety (consumption of safe food and water) 
• Prevent, control and eliminate public health nuisances in and around the Port
• Chlorine residual analysis of potable water 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

• Knowledge of the principles and practice of Public Health 
• Knowledge of new trends and development in Public Health 
• Knowledge of the Public Health Law and other regulations relating to Public Health and ability to interpret and apply them to health sanitation 
• Ability to supervise and control 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

• B. Sc. Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent 
• Post Graduate Diploma, Meats and Other Foods Inspection 
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Public Health Inspector 
• Registered as a Certified Public Health Inspector
