The incumbent coordinates parish-wide vector control by developing tactical plans, supervising field operations, and managing disease surveillance to ensure effective pest management and compliance with public health standards.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Public Health Inspector, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of vector control activities within the parish, ensuring effective programme delivery, supervision of field operations and compliance with established public health standards under the guidance of the Parish Programme Specialist – Vector Control. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will also be expected to: 

  • Develop and execute tactical plans 
  • Coordinate field activity and severe delivery associated with Vector Control
  • Develop and implement a plan for community participation 
  • Provide direction to staff through effective delegation and communication 
  • Coordinate the enforcement of the Public Health Act and requisite regulations
  • Utilize national strategic plan as guideline for health education and implement relevant aspects.
  • Liaise with the Parish Public Health Specialist – Vector Control on vector control issues for further escalation 
  • Provision of technical advise on vector control issues 
  • Identify training programmes for the health team 
  • Manage the monitoring of mosquitoes and other arthropods at the various developmental stages
  • Assist with the vector borne diseases surveillance programme 
  • Select appropriate material, chemicals, dosage rate and equipment to maintain optimum coverage and results 
  • Implement measures to assess efficacy of treatment 
  • Ensure operational maps are revised and updated to include specific characteristics and features relevant to mosquitoes and other vector control operations 
  • Implement strategies to assess mosquitoes and other vectors breeding sources; maintain an awareness of patterns and practices of these vectors which is significant to the timing of operations 
  • Update the operation of the vector control unit by ensuring good pest management practice is employed at all times 
  • Conduct appraisals and recommend and or initiate corrective action where necessary to improve performance and to achieve organizational goals 
  • Prepare and submit reports 
  • Conduct assessment and audits 
  • Any other duties delegated by the Parish Programme Specialist – Vector Control 

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of Public Health 
  • Knowledge of new trends and development in Public Health 
  • Knowledge of the Public Health Law and other regulations relating to Public Health and ability to interpret and apply them to health sanitation 
  • Ability to supervise and control 

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • B. Sc. Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent 
  • Certification in Management Studies/Public Administration/Human Resource Management 
  • Approved academic or professional qualifications in the prescribed area 
  • Minimum four (4) years relevant experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience
