The National Works Agency, an Executive Agency of the Government of Jamaica is seeking suitably qualified individuals for the position of Senior Lab Technician.

 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.Sc. in Construction Management, Construction Technology, or equivalent
  • Certificate in Soil/Material Testing or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in laboratory and field testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt materials, including geotechnical subsurface investigations
  • At least two (2) years experience in the supervision of staff in laboratory and field quality control

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Competence in word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Creativity, innovation, and problem- solving ability
  • Specialized training in laboratory testing techniques
  • Specialized training in field testing of material and soil

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

  • Reports to: Manager, Material Testing & Evaluation Unit

 

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise soil investigation and analysis for deep and shallow foundations
  • Oversee mix designs for bituminous and concrete mixes
  • Supervise quality control testing in the field and laboratory
  • Oversee sampling, testing, and approval of quarry materials
  • Implement the NWA independent quality assurance sampling and testing programme
  • Review and submit data from site investigations and laboratory tests
  • Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports
  • Coordinate departmental operations, including personnel and equipment deployment
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff performance
  • Maintain inventory, equipment, and sample storage systems
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and procedures
