The Statistical Analyst will participate in the collection, collation and retrieval of data on all aspect of the Southern Regional Health Authority in keeping with set standards, procedures and /or directives.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate must possess: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or Social Sciences or equivalent qualifications; 
  • Training in statistics and research methods; 
  • Training in computer hardware and network maintenance; 
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in statistical analysis.

  • Sound knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and statistic;
  • Sound knowledge of relevant statistical software; 
  • Sound knowledge of statistical standards outlined in the UNESCO\MOHW Guidelines and the various international\National standard classification of healthcare institutions manuals;
  • Sound knowledge of the Jamaican Healthcare System; 
  • Good knowledge of Government regulations and procedures. 

 

Key Responsibilities will include:

Management/Administrative 

  • Prepares reports on activities at required intervals; 
  • Contributes to the development of Work Plans for the Policy, Research and Statistic Sections; 
  • Contributes to the preparation of budget for the Sections; 
  • Contributes to the preparation of status reports for the Statistics Section\Epi Unit\Technical and other Departments of the SRHE region; 

Technical/Professional 

  • Developing methods to collect and tabulate economic and social data; 
  • Designing and managing surveys to deal with initial collection of data;
  • Arranging for the printing, collation and distribution of data collection instruments to each parish of the SRHA; 
  • Processing and analysing data in context looking for patterns to help make decisions;
  • Participating in the conduct of training Officers within the region, to collect, verify, validate, clean input and back up data; 
  • Monitoring the return of data from each parish and prepares required status reports;
  • Cleaning, verifying and validating the master database; 
  • Communicating with Regional Offices and healthcare institutions within the SRHA in respect of detected inconsistencies or errors; 
  • Extracting information as required from secondary source; 
  • Visiting regional and parish offices in order to ensure that application prototypes are properly installed, computer programme errors are minimised during the entry and retrieval of data, statistical standards and procedures are adhered to and schedules are maintained; 
  • Analysing and interpreting statistical data in order to identify significant differences in relationships among sources of information; 
  • Preparing and presenting data in graphical/tabular form for publications for the SRHA region; 
  • Providing data on the healthcare system to local and overseas interested individuals and organisation when requested by the RTD; 
  • Providing current and trend statistical data in support of analytical and policy decision making functions of the department and other relevant areas of the Region;
