The accountant manages project operations by maintaining accurate ledgers, ensuring financial integrity and policy compliance, preparing timely financial reports, and conducting reconciliations to minimize risk and support organizational audits.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Perform the accounting operations for the project.

  • Ensure that the general ledger is accurate, with debit, credit and social charges accounts and balances.
  • Ensure the financial integrity and accounting of World Vision Haiti.
  • Process inter-company transactions in accordance with transfer agreements,
  • Monitoring of the general ledger, investment, subsidy, and advance accounts for outstanding balances.
  • Provide assistance, as needed, to the account manager on accounting matters.

Minimize the financial impacts related to cash flow, deferral and accounting of funds.

  • Ensure the application of the accounting system, procedures and controls put in place.
  • Apply the accounting systems, processes and controls of World Vision Haiti.
  • Apply current policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development of accounting policies for World Vision Haiti.

Ensure accurate external reporting.

  • Ensure that financial and accounting reports are properly prepared and submitted on time.
  • Provide accurate and timely monthly financial reports.
  • Ensure that all departments and customer accounts are correctly indicated.
  • Provide regularization reports, if necessary.

Reconciling World Vision Haiti bank accounts.

  • Put in place mechanisms to reduce financial risks.
  • Apply the organization's global accounting methods.
  • Communicate the accounting policies, procedures and controls of World Vision Haiti.
  • Prepare the end-of-month reconciliation statement.
  • Prepare tax returns in accordance with local laws.
  • Collaborate with audit staff on independent annual audits.

Comply with World Vision Haiti’s accounting policies and procedures, both written and unwritten, and report any instances of non-compliance.

  • Adhere to World Vision policies and procedures and participate in devotional and chapel services
  • Demonstration and active participation in chapel and devotional services.



Required Professional Experience

  • Balanced combination of at least three years' experience in NGOs and non-profit organizations
  • Experience with government grant regulations and financial reporting requirements.

 

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration or a related field

 

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of accounting software, preferably Sun System; advanced level in Microsoft Excel
  • Being able to capitalize on key opportunities to mitigate business risks.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision
  • Technical and supervisory expertise in the development of management systems, internal controls, policies and procedures
  • Excellent working knowledge of GAAP and/or regulations and the requirements of government funders
  • Able to articulate and communicate ideas clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in a multicultural environment with multinational staff

 

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

  • The position requires the ability and willingness to undertake domestic travel up to 15% of the time.
