The incumbent manages ambulance fleet readiness, oversees EMT recruitment, training, and performance, assists in budget planning, and provides direct emergency medical response while ensuring accurate patient documentation and safety.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Organizes safety inspections of the vehicles as required and ensures that all equipment and other resources are kept in a state of immediate readiness to
  • respond to emergencies.
  • Ensures that the Ambulances are maintained, insured and licensed in conjunction with Facilities.
  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of EMTs under supervision.
  • In association with the Department of Human Resources, is responsible for the interview and selection of both Basic and Advanced EMT’s and is responsible for the orientation and instruction of staff.
  • Actively participates in EMT probationary assessments and annual performance appraisals of EMTs. Tracks and maintains data relating to EMT and AEMT certification
  • Assists with training, preparation for and management of casualties in a disaster setting
  • Assist in the preparations and monitoring of the annual budget
  • Responds to 911 emergencies and requests for Ambulance Services with timely handover of patients to the appropriate ED Nurse and completion of the Patient Care Report.

 

Qualifications & Registration required:

  • Associate degree in a related field (Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Paramedic Science, etcetera) – Desirable.
  • Diploma in Supervisory Management or Business Administration preferred or within (2) years in the role.
  • Certification with National Register for Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
  • Mass Casualty Management Certification
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • Valid Ambulance Drivers’ License (to be accomplished within six (6) months of employment with BHB)
  • Minimum of four - five (4 - 5) years of experience as an Advanced Emergency
  • Medical Technician (AEMT) AND Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Current registration with the Council for Allied Health Professionals (Bermuda Department of Health)
