The incumbent delivers HIV/STI prevention services through community outreach, rapid testing, and counseling, targeting vulnerable populations to promote behavior change and increase access to condoms and healthcare referrals.

 

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Parish BCC Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out the activities of the National HIV/STI Prevention and Control Programme through face to face interventions with individuals and small groups; interfacing with marginalized groups such as commercial sex workers, people with the same sex preferences, and residents of low-income communities. 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Four (4) CXC subjects, including English Language and Mathematics 

Plus 

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in a similar position 
  • Experience in attending nightclubs, bars and exotic clubs 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the HIV/STI epidemic, Behaviour Change, Public Health and Health Promotion 
  • Basic interviewing skills 
  • The ability to employ basic counselling techniques 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written 
  • Good customer service skills 
  • Excellent time management skills 

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting face to face interviews with individuals and small groups to share the message of HIV/STI prevention, and assist them through the process of behaviour change.
  • Increasing the availability of condoms to individuals by establishing additional condom outlets or upgrading existing ones. 
  • Assisting in organizing and participating in interventions initiated by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, or individual groups or organizations. 
  • Conducting rapid HIV test and counselling sessions per health district. 
  • Referring clients to health facilities for investigation and/or for treatment
