CONSULTANT GERIATRICIAN (FULL TIME & LOCUMS)

Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) strives to provide the highest in quality health care through service excellence, education and leadership.  We are seeking qualified, highly motivated and skilled professionals to work in a supportive, but demanding environment.  The ability to work harmoniously within a team of professionals is critical as we continue to improve patient care.

BHB wishes to provide a comprehensive service for older Patients both in inpatient and outpatient settings, including and not limited to the assessment of older adults and appropriate young disabled Patients. The Post Holder(s) will rotate across Acute Geriatrics, Long Term care and Palliative Care to provide the range of services on a rotational basis with out-of-hours on call support provided on a 1:3 basis.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provides education and training relating to the Care of the Elderly. In addition they will collaborate with the designated Service Chiefs, Clinical Managers, Clinical Directors to strategize and plan to achieve corporate and service improvement goals
  • Targets and develop benchmark data to establish and monitor quality improvement activities
  • Acts as an advisor to the Chief of Staff, and Senior officers of BHB, Professional Practice Leaders, Clinical Managers and other Professional Colleagues on medical and medical-legal matters
  • Promotes and participate in interdisciplinary teams as needed with physicians, nursing, allied health services (physio therapist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologist, social worker), pharmacy
  • Provides resource and leadership for the  development of best practice interdisciplinary clinical pathways and order sets and monitor use and compliance
  • Assists with the development and implementation of quality improvement practices, evidence-based care, the development of care maps / pathways and outcome measurements. Monitoring all such activities through regular clinical audit and reviews

 

Qualifications &/ Registration required:

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine
  • Specialty Registration and training in Geriatric Medicine
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience, four (4) of which should be exposure to Geriatric Services
  • Current registration with Medical Council in relevant jurisdiction
  • Eligible to register with Bermuda Medical Council
