The incumbent supports health data analysis by collecting and cleaning datasets, ensuring data integrity and standards, producing maps, and training staff on GIS data management processes.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Under the leadership and direction of the Director, Epidemiological Research & Analysis Unit, the GIS Database Officer is responsible for supporting the development of Health GIS’s analytical capabilities for the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW). The incumbent will be responsible to conduct data cleaning activities for datasets to facilitate spatial analyst, undertake data mining tasks to update databases and aid in the creation of routine mapping activities.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Collects, organizes, and structure epidemiological and health data from multiple sources in an accurately and timely manner.
  • Liaises with other members of Health GIS team as appropriate for ARCGIS platform optimization
  • Applies industry standard techniques to prepare datasets for accurate interpretation.
  • Ensures that all spatial data is entered in accordance with established GIS standards and data management protocols. 
  • Conducts routine checks to confirm accuracy, completeness, and adherence to data requirements.
  • Trains staff on proper GIS data entry practices to maintain system integrity.
  • Drafts, reviews, and updates SOPs governing GIS data management processes.
  • Produces GIS data and maps from templates for visualizing the geographic distribution of priority and other diseases and environmental health risks.
  • Maintains up-to-date datasets by integrating new surveillance and field data.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Computer Science from a recognized Institution.
  • One (1) years’ experience working in similar position; 
  • Experience using ArcGIS or similar GIS software to develop and manage maps would be an asset

OR

  • Certificate in Computer Application. 
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in similar position.
  • Experience using ArcGIS or similar GIS software to develop and manage maps would be an asset
