The incumbent manages employee relations by handling grievances, misconduct, terminations, and redundancies; advising on HR policies; resolving conflicts; developing training and policies; ensuring legal compliance; and fostering employee engagement.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Doctors Hospital Health System (DHHS) Employee Relations Manager will own and drive the Employee Relations agenda and foster positive relationships between employees and management, ensuring fair and consistent application of company policies and employment law, and to ensure mitigation of risk for the DHHS and respect to employees.

They incumbent will manage employee relations issues, provide guidance to People Managers, contribute to a positive and productive work environment, and will escalate employee relations cases to the Legal Department as and when appropriate.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Employee Relations Case Management:

  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues such as grievances, disciplinary actions, misconduct, and attendance concerns. 

Employee Terminations:

  • Manage employee terminations relating to performance issues or misconduct and seek Legal department guidance in complex and / or high-risk cases.

Restructures and Redundancies:

  • Partner with Legal department on Employee Relations matters where redundancies may occur due to restructures, or re-allocation of resources requires an employ relations assessment.

Conflict Resolution:

  • Mediate and facilitate discussions between employees and management to resolve disputes and build positive working relationships. 

Policy Guidance:

  • Advise managers on HR policies and procedures, ensuring consistent application and compliance with employment law. 

Training and Development:

  • In partnership with the Organizational Development team develop and deliver training programs for People Managers on employee relations topics, such as conflict resolution, managing grievances, terminations, and policy awareness, to ensure that People Managers are aware of their role and responsibilities.

Policy Development:

  • Contribute to the development and review of HR policies and procedures related to employee relations. 

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Track and analyze employee relations data to identify trends and areas for improvement. 

Employee Body Relations:

  • Manage relationships with any employee representative bodies, ensuring effective communication and consultation, if applicable.

Risk and Compliance:

  • Ensure all employee relations practices comply with relevant employment laws and regulations and ensure risk mitigation to protect organizational reputation.

Employee Engagement:

  • Contribute to employee engagement initiatives and promote a positive and inclusive work environment. 

People Management:

  • This position may have People Management responsibility for two Associate Experience and Engagement Specialists. In this case the incumbent will lead, manage, and develop the team to ensure engagement, high performance and to ensure the delivery of high-quality AE&E activities.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law: minimum, or related field, or equivalent other professional training.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-years in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of Bahamian Employment Law and best practices: Understanding of relevant employment legislation, HR policies, and best practices in employee relations. 
  • Experience in case management and investigations: Experience in handling employee relations cases, conducting investigations, and drafting reports in a detailed manner that ensures transparency, compliance, and mitigation of risk.
  • Experience in a Hospital setting: Experience in a hospital or medical setting preferred.
  • Effective communication and people skills: Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels, build relationships, and mediate disputes. Excellent negotiation and diplomacy skills.
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills: Ability to analyze complex situations, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions. 
  • Coaching and leadership skills: Ability to provide guidance and support to managers on employee relations matters. 
  • Attention to detail: High level of attention to detail and information management.
  • Organizational and time management skills: Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities effectively. 
  • Proficiency in HR systems and software: Ability to use HR systems to track cases, generate reports, and manage data.
