The incumbent supports Caribbean corporate financing by managing client relationships, structuring transactions, coordinating due diligence, mitigating risks, and preparing financial models, documentation, and presentations for IDB Invest operations.

 

What you’ll do

  • You will be integrated into the team that manages client relationships and structures new corporate transactions of loans, quasi-equity, and equity investments in Latin America. 
  • Your scope of activities shall include, but not be limited to:  
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of finance and financial services, especially corporate and project financing.  
  • Support the regional team leader for the Caribbean in developing and maintaining quality client relationships to ensure responsive client service and improve new business opportunities.  
  • Review and analyze financial statements and build and/or adjust Excel financial models, including financial projection models, to evaluate financial information and support management decision-making. 
  • Proactively identify potential investment opportunities based on industry experience, reputation, market potential, financial capability, and strategic fit. 
  • Assess the attractiveness of specific investment opportunities with a strong focus on credit quality and development impact including creating financial models, analyzing historical and projected financial models and conducting industry and market research and assisting in IDB Invest’s business development efforts. 
  • Participate in negotiations; use negotiation skills to overcome impasses and lead negotiations in straightforward transactions. 
  • When required and under the supervision of the team leader, coordinate complete transactions (including in person due diligences) and develop appropriate financial structures for straightforward and sophisticated transactions, including all the internal transaction management.  
  • Work closely with IDB Invest’s development partners to manage environmental, social, technical, legal, corporate governance, and other risks in projects and champion IDB Invest’s offerings to clients. 
  • Prepare documentation for IDB Invest internal processes and contribute to the preparation and review of legal transaction documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IDB Invest standards. 
  • Assist with disbursements for approved lending and investment transactions by assisting with the verification of all contractual conditions. 
  • Assist in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, pitchbooks, and other business-related reports in the day-to-day operations of the Unit. 

 

What you'll need

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, accounting.  
  • Experience: You have at least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in loan and investments origination, structuring structured finance (project finance), or corporate finance transactions. Confirmed experience in a similar role in an investment, advisory firm, or development bank would be desirable. Strong client relationship experience and skills are also highly valued. 
  • Languages: You are proficient in oral and written English; knowledge of Spanish is a plus. 

 

Requirements

  • Citizenship:You are either a citizen of Barbados or Trinidad and Tobago or with residency or legal permit to work in one of these countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
     

Type of contract and duration

  • National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
