The Lecturer in Pharmacology will teach undergraduate/postgraduate students, mentor trainees, develop curricula, and conduct research (Clinical/Experimental Pharmacology).

 

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a Medical Degree with a DM or MD in Pharmacology (Clinical) or PhD in Pharmacology, from a recognized university or closely related field.  

Candidates should also possess:  

  • At least three (3) years’ teaching experience at the postgraduate level  
  • Medical: research experience in Clinical Pharmacology or Therapeutics  
  • PhD (Non-Medical): research experience in Experimental Pharmacology  
  • Experience in writing examination questions in Pharmacology for undergraduate medical programme  
  • Proficiency in curriculum development  

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:  

  • Board eligible or Board Certified  
  • Post-doctoral training in Clinical or Experimental Pharmacology  
  • Experience in curriculum development for undergraduate teaching  
  • Experience in postgraduate research supervision  
  • Experience in conducting laboratory experiments  
  • Possess skills in course and project coordination  

 

The following would be considered assets:  

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning  
  • Familiarity with Problem-Based Learning (PBL)  
  • A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals  
  • Proficiency in writing research grants and attracting funding  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching of the specialty to undergraduate and postgraduate students  
  • Mentoring medical students in Pharmacology, as well as supervising and assisting with postgraduate training  
  • Participating in all routine Departmental activities, which include meetings and representation in various Committees of the Faculty  
  • Delivering teaching in Pharmacology in the medical curriculum  
  • Forging working relationships with societal stakeholders including industry and NGOs to design Pharmacology Practice and Research Projects  
  • Supporting University assessment and examination activities  
  • Assessing and re-evaluating the Pharmacology curriculum for continuous quality assurance  
  • Organizing and conducting module examinations

  • Be willing to interact with multi-disciplinary staff in the Department for delivery of teaching  
  • Be creative and innovative in delivery of undergraduate curriculum  
  • Be willing to forge working relationships with internal and external partners to develop impactful research projects  

 

Remuneration Package

Annual Salary Range:  

  • Lecturer (Medical):  
    • Minimum: TTS 275,484.00 per annum  
    • Maximum: TTS 360,876.00 per annum  
  • Lecturer (Non-Medical):  
    • Minimum: TTS 254,136.00 per annum  
    • Maximum: TTS 353,760.00 per annum  

 

Benefits:

  • Special allowance of 6% of basic salary;  
  • Transportation Allowance of TTS3,250.00 per month;  
  • Up to five economy class passages plus baggage allowance of US$3,000.00 (TTS equivalent) on appointment and normal termination;  
  • Unfurnished accommodation at 10% or furnished at 12.5% of basic salary, or housing allowance of 20% of basic salary to staff making own housing arrangements;  
  • UWI contribution of equivalent of 10% of basic salary to Superannuation Scheme;  
  • Annual Study and Travel Grant (available after first year of service): -TTS20,717.00 per annum  
  • Institutional Visit Allowance – TTS7,200.00 per annum  
  • Book Grant – TTS6,000.00 per annum  
  • Contributory Health Insurance – 50%  
  • Group Life Insurance Scheme
