The incumbent oversees preventative/corrective maintenance, directs a team of technicians, enforces safety standards, and optimizes resource allocation to ensure efficient hospital facility operations.

 

 

 

Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Supervisor oversees all preventative and corrective maintenance activities at Spanish Town Hospital, including planning schedules, assigning tasks, managing inventory, ensuring safety compliance, leading repairs, and providing technical guidance on complex mechanical/electrical systems.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

Management/Administrative:  

  • Develop and implement the Operational Maintenance Plan  
  • Prepare work plans and ensure policy compliance  
  • Review payment vouchers for completed work  
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders and submit performance reports  
  • Monitor maintenance programs and recommend adjustments  
  • Supervise repairs, contracts, and inventory management  
  • Conduct site visits to verify work quality and timelines  
  • Oversee preventative maintenance of electromechanical equipment  
  • Ensure prompt emergency response and proper work scheduling  

Human Resource Management:  

  • Manage staff welfare through performance appraisals and training  
  • Provide leadership via coaching, mentoring, and clear communication  
  • Enforce policies and participate in recruitment  
  • Administer leave and disciplinary actions per HR guidelines  

 

Reporting Relationships:

  • Supervisor: Parish Engineer  
  • Direct Reports: Electromechanical Technicians & Artisans  
  • Liaises With: Heads of Departments (internal); Suppliers, JPS, NWC (external)  

 

Working Conditions:

  • Extended/irregular hours to meet deadlines  
  • Exposure to high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery  
  • Physical demands: prolonged standing, lifting heavy items  

 

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Expertise in mechanical/electrical systems and diagnostics  
  • Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills  
  • Proficiency in maintenance standards, building codes, and disaster preparedness  
  • Computer literacy and inventory management  

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • HEART Level 3/Diploma in Electrical, HVAC, or Electromechanical Engineering  
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in maintenance supervision
