The North-East Regional Health Authority invites applications from suitable qualified persons to fill the position of Medical Technologist 2 at the St. Ann Health Department.

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from a reputable academic institution
  • Professional License with the Council, Professions Supplemental to Medicine (CPSM) in Jamaica
  • Two (2) years working experience 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND SPECIALISED TECHNIQUES

  • Knowledge of in the following disciplines: clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology Haematology, Immunohaematology and Cytology. 
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management Systems and Laboratory Standard (ISO 15189/ISO 17025/ISO 9001) 
  • Member of on or both Medical Technology professional association (CASMET / MTAJ)
  • Knowledge of the care and preservation of specimens. 
  • Knowledge of the care and maintenance of laboratory equipment. 
  • Ability to accurately perform standard laboratory procedures, and to observe results.
  • Ability to recognize human tissue and fluids. 
  • Skill in operating laboratory equipment and apparatus. 
  • Skill in collecting specimens efficiently and painlessly. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assist the Medical Officer (Health) in assessing quality assurance and workflow within laboratory
  • Lead in the monitoring of Quality Indicators 
  • Leads in the review of, and partake in corrective action when there is an incident
  • Perform venipuncture and /or capillary blood collection to obtain appropriate samples and/or blood units 
  • Verify specimen suitability and validate documentation to ensure that it corresponds with the specimen
  • Prepare specimen, reagents and quality control material for testing procedures
  • Validate the accuracy and precision of laboratory results, using appropriate quality control procedure
  • Assist in the supervision and training of Medical technologist 1 and Technical Assistants
  • Undertake routine and complex testing procedures in the various sections of the specialized department or laboratory 
  • Adhere to safety protocols of the organization ensuring health and safety of self, other staff and visitors
  • Leads or participate in agreed research and development projects undertaken by the specialized department or laboratory
