The Investigating Officer conducts thorough, standards-based investigations to ensure legal compliance, prepares detailed reports, collaborates with enforcement bodies, and performs due diligence and background checks with accuracy and integrity.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the Commission’s mandate of ensuring compliance with all legislation administered by the Commission, through thorough investigation of matters. 
  • Liaise and maintain relations with other enforcement-related organizations, regulatory and otherwise, to investigate matters. 
  • Conduct thorough investigations using document-based research, interviews and online/open source research. 
  • Produce accurate, coherent, and well-written investigation reports. 
  • Comply with internationally acceptable enforcement standards. 
  • Collaborate effectively with team members. 
  • Prepare and research information as it relates to investigative approaches and/or techniques (eg interviewing). 
  • Conduct due diligence investigations with accuracy and integrity. 
  • Consistently meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards. 
  • Explore alternative methods to improve delivery of work outcomes. 
  • Adapt to organizational changes and evolving priorities. 
  • Conduct background checks on prospective employees as directed. 
  • Perform any other duties or projects assigned by the manager. 

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrate strong logical, critical, and inquisitive thinking skills 
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and orally 
  • Possess working knowledge of: 
    • Social media platforms and website structures 
    • Basic data analysis processes 
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team 
  • Knowledge and capacity to perform online/internet-based investigations and interpret findings within relevant legal frameworks/laws administered by the Commission 
  • Show commitment to learning and adhering to established procedures and practices
  • Ability to maintain high attention to detail and accuracy 

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, criminal justice, finance, economics or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience conducting investigations would be an asset
  • Proficient in computer usage, including: 
    • Microsoft Office Suite (especially MS Word) 
    • Online investigations (including Open-source/OSINT tools) 
    • Online research techniques 
  • Knowledge of industry products/operations 
  • Knowledge of legal and/or court processes in The Bahamas considered an asset
  • Knowledge of securities and financial and corporate service providers legislation
