The incumbent supports fire and medical emergency operations by assisting firefighters, providing advanced pre-hospital care, driving ambulances, maintaining equipment, responding to HazMat and POL spills, and supporting clinical services.

 

Overview:

Amentum is looking for a Paramedic to join our team on Andros Island, Bahamas. As a Paramedic, you will be responsible for performing Emergency Medical Services, Medical Surveillance, injury/illness care employees and visitors within the paramedic scope of practice under the structure of Amentum’s Telemedicine standards, policies, procedures, and treatment care guidelines. The Paramedic will also provide public education such as CPR and First Aid and Wellness Promotions as examples. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance. Note: U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Receives orders and daily task assignments from the on-duty Fire Officer. 
  • Perform general fire ground duties to assist firefighters in combating structural and aircraft fires and mishaps. This may include setting up support equipment such as ladders, light units, exchanging SCBA air cylinders, deploying and reloading hoses.  
  • Respond to medical emergencies and performs advanced pre-hospital patient care in accordance with established protocols and standard procedures. Performs as primary patient care attendant.  
  • Drive ambulances and similar non-tactical vehicles to emergency and non-emergency incidents in a safe and professional manner.
  • Perform basic daily operator inspections and maintenance on assigned vehicles; clean, wash, and service equipment; Inspect and inventory medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. 
  • Provides clinical services at the installation Dispensary when the primary Clinical Paramedic is unavailable or needs assistance due to patient load based on a pre-determined schedule.  
  • Respond to Hazardous Materials emergencies and perform defensive control and containment tasks such as building damns and dykes, applying absorbent materials, collecting contaminated absorbent materials.  Must attend Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) training.  
  • Respond to water borne POL spills and assists with deployment of boom and other materials to control, contain, and recover spilled product. Must attend Oil Spill Response Training (FRT).
  • Assist with flow-testing fire hydrants and fire sprinkler systems, pressure testing of hoses, and weight certification of ladders.
  • Provides medical care to patients as directed within the paramedic scope of practice following treatment care guidelines set forth by the US Navy BUMED/CNIC EMS Treatment Protocols and Amentum’s policy/procedures set forth by the Amentum Medical Director.
  • Provides emergency response coverage for Dispensary Paramedic for scheduled time off and weekends when on duty.  
  • Performs post-accident, pre-employment, for cause, and random drug/alcohol testing.  
  • Relocates from the Fire House to the Dispensary during the day to assist the Dispensary Paramedic or will act as the Dispensary Paramedic as needed to cover call volume, medevac assistance, or inventory support when requested by the Dispensary Paramedic and to cover for vacation schedules. 
  • Works a 14 Day on/14 Day off schedule.  
  • Acts as MedEvac Coordinator to arrange and coordinate Medical Evacuations via Air Ambulance as needed.  
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have 3-4 years of experience as a Paramedic.
  • Must have CPR/ACLS/PALS certification. Must have or be able to obtain American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR Instructor certification.
  • Must hold National Registry – Paramedic certification.  
  • Should have past experience working as a Paramedic in a remote location.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be competent in the Windows operating system environment, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and learn other software as needed.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of material or equipment.  
  • Participates in daily physical fitness training per DoD requirement and must take and pass company physical and recurrent physical annually.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
  • Valid Driver's License and passport are required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance. Note: U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Fire Fighter I and/or II certifications.
