Overview

The Professional Services Consultant will provide confidential and private educational, and personal counselling to students, employees and Faculty. The Consultant will be expected to address conflicts and develop a more supportive environment by offering guidance and implementing programmes. The role combines the problem-solving approach of a consultant with the expertise of a counsellor. This is a Part-time position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with students to discuss grades, help them plan their academic schedules and assist them in exploring career paths that align with their skills and interests.
  • Guide students through processes including (standardised testing, applying for scholarships and financial aid and preparing for interviews after graduation).
  • Provide support for personal and social issues, such as bullying, low self-esteem and relationship issues.
  • Offer basic mental health guidance to students, employees and Faculty
  • and refer students, employees and Faculty to external professionals when necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between students and faculty to address student concerns and behavioural issues.
  • Develop, implement and facilitate mental health and conflict resolution workshops.
  • Recommend and develop mental health and emotional support programmes to improve the well-being of students, employees and Faculty.
  • Maintain confidential records of students’ and employees’ progress, interactions and counselling sessions.
  • Any other reasonable duties requested by the Associate Vice President of Grand Bahama and the Family Islands or Designee.

 

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or Education from an accredited college or university, with at least three (3) years experience in a similar role. A Master’s Degree in Counselling or School Psychology or equivalent is preferred.
