The role involves teaching (Agri-food Microbiology, Food Safety), leading research (Risk Analysis, Foodborne Diseases), supervising students, and collaborating with stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in:  
    • Microbiology (Agri-food, Environmental, Molecular)  
    • Agri-food Safety and Quality Assurance  
    • Food Safety Legislation and Management Systems  
    • Risk Analysis and Epidemiology of Foodborne Diseases  
  • Research: Develop a research program focused on:  
    • Agri-food Safety and Quality Management  
    • Hazard and Risk Analysis of Tropical Foods  
    • Foodborne Disease Epidemiology  
  • Student Supervision: Mentor and supervise graduate students (MSc, MPhil, PhD) in relevant fields.  
  • Program Coordination: Oversee and periodically review undergraduate/postgraduate programs in Microbiology and Agri-food Safety.  
  • Collaboration: Partner with regional/international agencies to secure research funding and support capacity building.  
  • Outreach: Engage stakeholders through collaborative research, workshops, and technical support for the agricultural sector.  

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:  

  • PhD in Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, or a closely related field.  
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution.  
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications.  
  • Expertise in:  
    • Agri-food Safety Risk Analysis  
    • Food Safety Hazards and Control Systems  

Advantageous:  

  • BSc in Agriculture, Soil Science, Food Science, or related disciplines.  
  • Experience in:  
    • Multidisciplinary course delivery (undergraduate/graduate levels).  
    • Student supervision and program development.  
    • Securing research grants and international collaborations.  

Additional Assets:  

  • Certification in university teaching/learning.  
  • Experience organizing workshops/conferences (national/international).

Remuneration Package

Annual Salary Range:  

  • Senior Lecturer (Non-Medical):  
    • Minimum: TTS 360,876.00  
    • Maximum: TTS 447,384.00  
  • Lecturer (Non-Medical):  
    • Minimum: TTS 254,136.00  
    • Maximum: TTS 353,760.00  

 

Benefits:

  • Special Allowance: 6% of basic salary.  
  • Transportation Allowance: TTS 3,250.00/month.  
  • Relocation Support (for international hires):  
    • 5 economy class flights + baggage allowance (US$3,000/TTS equivalent).  
  • Housing Options:  
    • Unfurnished (10% of salary) / Furnished (12.5%) / Housing allowance (20%).  
  • Retirement: 10% UWI contribution to Superannuation Scheme.  
  • Grants & Allowances:  
    • Annual Study/Travel Grant (TTS 24,548.00, post-1st year).  
    • Institutional Visit Allowance (TTS 7,200.00, post-1st year).  
    • Book Grant (TTS 6,000.00/year).  
  • Insurance:  
    • 50% contributory Health Insurance.  
    • Group Life Insurance.
