Amentum is seeking a Solid Waste & Qualified Recycling Program Supervisor to join our team on Andros Island, Bahamas to support the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) mission.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Solid Waste Operators (SWOs) and ensure that those workers comply with all project requirements.
  • Set an example for SWOs by complying with all project requirements. 
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as necessary. 
  • Draft and submit a budget for the Solid Waste section to include labor, materials, and other direct costs. 
  • Attend all meetings as required and share information with SWOs. 
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline Solid Waste Operators to include assessing Solid Waste Operators’ performance as well as providing feedback on merit increases. 
  • Train workers on job duties. 
  • Foster a positive, safe, healthful, and environmentally sound work environment. 
  • Ensure fitness for duty during working hours (not under the influence of alcohol or drugs & mentally and physically capable of performing work safely).  
  • Participate in planning daily work through completing task hazard assessments. 
  • Complete task specific, job specific, or project specific training as required. 
  • Perform inspections on vehicles and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), before, during, and after use. 
  • Wear PPE when necessary; store and maintain the PPE in a manner that safeguards the PPE. 
  • Identify and report environmental, health, or safety hazards (EHS); correct hazards if authorized and able to do so. 
  • Immediately report all incidents and near misses to Dispatch and EHS Manager. 
  • Operate roll-on/roll-off trucks, refuse trucks, recycling trucks, pick-up trucks, and forklifts.
  • Operate trash compactor, composter, drum and can crusher, and cardboard baler. 
  • Prepare solid waste and recycling materials for shipment off-site to include paperwork. 
  • Ensure that base personnel depositing waste and recycling materials sign in and out of the Solid Waste Compound and that they only unload materials in authorized areas. 
  • Prepare the base for hurricane readiness. 
  • Assist with spill response by being an auxiliary member of the Facility Response Team. 
  • Assist other sections within the EHS Department as directed. 
  • Perform all other reasonable duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must obtain the Safety Trained Supervisor from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals within one year of hire; this requires 30 hours of safety training and passing a written safety exam. 
  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience. 
  • Must have a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL). 
  • Must be able to drive a manual transmission vehicle. 
  • Must be able to routinely lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders, vehicles, and piles of rock, sand, and debris.
  • Must be able to adhere to project environmental, health, and safety requirements. 
  • Must be proficient at basic math to ensure that containers are not overloaded and to accurately document time worked. 
  • Must be able to work Saturdays or Sundays as needed. Travel is minimal but will be required for some training courses (in the U.S.).
  • This position is reserved for Bahamian citizens only.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with solid waste or recycling. 
  • Experience with operating a vacuum truck, drum crushers, can crushers, cardboard balers, and waste compactors. 
  • Previous experience with composting is a plus.
