For a candidate with the right experience and leadership potential, the position of Head of Social Studies is available. This is a unique opportunity to lead a department in one of the Dominican Republic’s most established international schools while enjoying an enviable Caribbean lifestyle.

About the School

Founded in 1917, the Abraham Lincoln School is a historic institution owned by the Central Romana Corporation. We are a co-educational day school with approximately 480 students (aged 4–18) and a dedicated staff of 40 teachers, the majority of whom are British.

We pride ourselves on:

  • Academic Rigour: We follow the British National Curriculum, with English as the primary language of instruction.
  • Small Community Ethos: With small class sizes and a supportive environment, we foster a disciplined yet caring atmosphere where every student is known and valued.
  • Facilities: The school features air-conditioned classrooms, two computer suites, a library with over 20,000 books, and three specialised science laboratories (Chemistry, Physics, and Biology) equipped to support practical learning.

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic educator to join our Social Studies Department. The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Key Stage 3: Delivering engaging Geography lessons that lay the foundation for advanced study.
  • Key Stage 4 (IGCSE): Teaching Geography to IGCSE level (experience with Cambridge IGCSE or similar is highly desirable).
  • Key Stage 5 (AS-Level): Delivering Social Studies and Economics to students, preparing them for university entry.
  • For the Head of Social Studies candidate: You will oversee the curriculum development, manage the social studies budget, and organise local field trips.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Geography (or a closely related field) from the UK or Ireland and a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS).
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of teaching experience is required, preferably in the UK.
  • Curriculum Knowledge: Proven experience teaching the UK curriculum (IGCSE or GCSE and A-Level) is essential.
  • Attributes: We are looking for adaptable, resilient, and good-humoured individuals who are willing to contribute to the school's extensive extra-curricular and sports programmes.
