Communication Officer/Research Writer (MCG/IE 3) (vacant)

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Director, Health Promotion and Education, the incumbent has responsibility for researching, writing, and coordinating the production and dissemination of health promotion and education materials, while supporting communication and visibility activities that advance programme objectives and ensure consistent messaging to internal and external stakeholders.

• Themes, messages and content for campaigns and IEC materials developed

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS INCLUDES:

Technical Responsibilities

• Researches, writes, designs, and coordinates the production of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials, including posters, brochures, leaflets, fact sheets, newsletters, social media content, and other promotional materials.
• Develops themes, key messages, creative concepts, content, and layouts for health promotion campaigns and communication products.
• Conducts literature reviews, environmental scans, surveys, and other research activities to support programme development and communication initiatives.
• Assists in developing data collection instruments, including surveys, questionnaires, and evaluation tools.
• Researches and prepares articles, feature stories, speeches, reports, briefing notes, and other written content for publication in newsletters, magazines, websites, and other communication channels.

Technical Competencies

• Sound knowledge of National Health Policies
• Sound knowledge of Public Health Laws and Regulations
• Sound knowledge of trends and developments in public health
• Expertise in presentation and training skills
• Familiarity with cultural norms in Jamaica and the region and how they impact health

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor Degree in Mass Communications, Communications, Social Sciences, Health Promotion or related field
• At least two to three (2-3) years working experience in Communications, public relations, content development, health promotion, research, media or a related field.
