To provide for the installation, repair and maintenance of the water transmission and distribution network.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To install water mains, including valves, water meters, hydrants, etc in accordance with specifications and technical standard practice. 
  • To repair or replace water mains, valves hydrants, and water meters to maintain the transmission and distribution network. 
  • To excavate and back fill trenches and effect site restoration on the completion of installation or repair jobs. 
  • To operate valves to regulate the flow of water to specified areas as directed. 
  • To carryout periodic inspections to the transmission and distribution network to check for leaks, root invasions, etc. and takes appropriate corrective action. 
  • To prepare requisition for materials and tools needed to complete jobs. Ensures that all materials and tools are accounted for.
  • To load and off-load, tools and materials for transportation to and from work sites. 
  • To observe all safety and health procedures in the performance of assigned tasks to ensure the safety of colleagues and members of the public. 
  • To make written and oral reports on jobs completed and in progress as required. 
  • To perform other related duties and responsibilities consistent with the purpose and level of the post. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Craft Certificate in Plumbing. 
  • Three (3) years experience in maintaining a water distribution system.
