The Dietary Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of the hospital’s food service operations.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Delivers foodservice on a timely basis, including patient meal trays, tea service, nourishments and catered functions when ordered
  • Follows proper dishwashing procedures including proper rack assembly, presoaking flatware, keeping clean and dirty areas separate, replenishing chemicals when needed
  • Checks the diet card before assembling meal tray and initiates change of menu if needed
  • Assembles food trays neatly and accurately
  • Refrigerates cold foods immediately after use
  • Pours hot beverages just prior to tray assembly
  • Performs all routine cleaning duties   
  • Replenishes supplies in meal service areas when assigned
  • Performs special cleaning duties as assigned
  • Rotates food stores (FIFO), restocks supplies
  • Receives and stores foodservice supplies from vendors as assigned
  • Records dishwasher rinse temperatures and food storage temperatures as assigned 
  • Cares for equipment and supplies in the work area.   
  • Reports faulty equipment to both Facilities Management and Lead Chef immediately
  • Collects kitchen supplies from patient care areas on a timely basis
  • Portions food accurately under the guidelines set by the Clinical Nutrition team (Dietitian)
  • Uses all supplies including cleaning supplies conservatively
  • Utilizes available resources, makes appropriate substitutions when needed 

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma 
  • Minimum of one year food service experience 
  • Current Health Certificate – Food Handler’s Certificate
