Overview

URC is seeking a Belize-based Obstetrician/Gynecologist for an anticipated opportunity to support the Belize Quality and Efficiency Improvement Strategy (QEIS). The Specialist will provide technical expertise in reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health (RMNCH), ensuring integration of evidence-based clinical practices into national standards, guidelines, and training activities. This position will contribute to strengthening maternal and neonatal care and advancing patient safety and quality outcomes across health facilities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical expertise in obstetrics and gynecology for the review and adaptation of RMNCH protocols, guidelines, and tools.
  • Support training and mentorship of facility staff in evidence-based maternal and newborn care, including management of obstetric emergencies.
  • Collaborate with QI teams and Ministry of Health and Wellness counterparts to standardize obstetric and gynecological practices across facilities.
  • Contribute to the development of job aids, clinical algorithms, and SOPs to improve patient outcomes.
  • Provide input into monitoring, evaluation, and quality assurance processes for RMNCH services.
  • Participate in knowledge exchange and dissemination of best practices.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical Doctor with specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience in obstetrics/gynecology.
  • Demonstrated experience in development or adaptation of maternal and newborn health protocols, guidelines, or tools.
  • Experience in training, mentoring, or capacity building of health professionals.
  • Familiarity with Belize’s public health system and standards of care is strongly preferred.
  • Strong teamwork, facilitation, and communication skills.
