Overview

URC is recruiting a Quality Improvement Specialist for anticipated opportunity to advance healthcare quality and efficiency initiatives under Belize’s Belize Quality and Efficiency Improvement Strategy (QEIS). The Specialist will lead the development and adaptation of quality improvement protocols, monitoring tools, and standard operating procedures across hospital and primary care services. The position will emphasize continuous quality improvement cycles, capacity building of district and regional QI teams, and strengthening performance monitoring and evaluation systems. The role requires close collaboration with government and local stakeholders to drive measurable improvements in patient care, safety, and system efficiency.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, adaptation, and implementation of quality improvement (QI) strategies, protocols, and SOPs for health facilities under the QEIS.
  • Provide technical guidance on continuous quality improvement (CQI) cycles, ensuring integration of evidence-based practices.
  • Support the development and rollout of monitoring and evaluation tools, performance dashboards, and reporting systems.
  • Organize and facilitate capacity-building workshops and trainings for regional and district QI teams, facility staff, and managers.
  • Mentor QI teams in developing and implementing improvement plans, conducting performance evaluations, and using data to inform decision-making.
  • Promote knowledge exchange and dissemination of best practices across health facilities and regions.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and local partners to align QI interventions with national health policies and standards.
  • Support the integration of patient satisfaction tools, risk management practices, and safety protocols into facility operations.
  • Monitor the progress of QI initiatives, prepare reports, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a medical field (Doctor or Nurse).
  • Certification or Diploma in Quality Improvement is required.
  • Postgraduate studies (Master’s or PhD) in a related field (e.g., Hospital Management, Public Health, Epidemiology, Quality) are an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a quality improvement role in the health sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of QI protocols, guidelines, M&E tools, or SOPs in at least two projects of similar nature, or at least three years of related experience.
  • Experience working with public health systems in Latin America and the Caribbean is an asset.
  • Strong skills in facilitation, training, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
