Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides the intermediate and basic care needs with consideration for personal hygiene, mobility, comfort, and safety in the environment, based on the nursing philosophy.

 

PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN (CERTIFIED PCT)

Position of this class distinguished from those of the Nursing Assistant by the performance of advanced nursing assistant activities in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and by a greater degree of independent action in direct care supporting activities. 

This is advanced patient care work and related service in the care and treatment of hospital patients / clients.  Duties are carried out in accordance with established nursing service practices and polices, and special instruction from nursing or  medical staff.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Enrollment in the nursing program or equivalent. Ability to follow written and oral communication.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years directly related experience.

 

TRAINING:

  • Satisfactory completion of heart saver program.

 

LICENSURE:

  • Completion of an approved Patient Care Technician course or enrollment in a nursing program, desired. Completion of the BLS/CPR certification

 

OTHER:

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in basic principles and functions of nursing and hygienic care for patients.  Knowledgeable and proficient in special and advanced procedures in assisting nursing and medical staff in area of assignment.
