The incumbent will be responsible to examine, plan and administer treatment programmes for patients to improve and/or restore function, relieve pain and prevent disability following injury, disease or loss of body part(s).

 

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • Diploma in Physiotherapy or Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from an accredited training institution. 
  • First two (2) years clinical experience (post completion of internship) 
  • Current licensure to practice in Jamaica. 

 

Specific Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Display sensitivity and empathy to the needs and feelings of patients. 
  • Ability to motivate patients to comply with therapy 
  • Display objectivity, resourcefulness, adaptability and sound judgement 
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other members of the health team 
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and programmes 

 

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Examine all patients referred for Physiotherapy 
  • Develop and implement treatment programmes for each patient 
  • Progress treatment and refer on to other services as required 
  • Document all information (i.e. subjective, objective, and treatment regime) for each patient
  • Revaluate and change patient’s treatment programme when necessary 
  • Discharge patients when programme has been completed or as appropriate and prepare discharge summary 
  • Develop home programmes for patients as necessary 
  • Maintain accurate statistical information (i.e. treatment units, visits) of all patients receiving treatment 
  • Attend and participate in ward rounds 
  • Consult with Medical Staff and/or Senior Physiotherapy Staff when necessary 
  • Participate in In-service Education or other continuing education programmes organized by the department or by the hospital 
  • Supervise volunteers (on recommendation)
