The Preserve Attendant is responsible for general landscaping and grounds maintenance, consisting primarily of manual labor, working independently or with a crew. Assist with special projects such as event preparation and support.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • General landscape maintenance including planting and transplanting, pruning trees and shrubs, watering, mulching, mowing, grooming, raking, hoeing, digging, chipping, weeding, fertilizing, and edging.
  • General site remediation and cleanup including removal of invasive plant species, garbage, trash, and stabilization of degraded areas to prepare for site restoration activities.
  • General cleanup and equipment maintenance such as picking up trash and compost, removing refuse, tidying up tool and equipment storage areas.
  • Trail maintenance and assist with other general small construction projects.
  • Safely operate small equipment such as ATVs, leaf blowers, mowers, chainsaw, and weed eaters.
  • Off-site collection of casuarina wood, leaf litter, and other materials as needed.
  • Report any tool or equipment problems to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Work safely without injury to self, others, property or plants.
  • Interact with staff, volunteers, visitors and the public in a friendly and respectful manner including responding to inquiries and requests.
  • Assist with lath house and nursery related activities.
  • Assist with support for special events and other projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Preserve Manager.

 

Required Skills

  • General knowledge of small tools and equipment preferred.
  • Some landscape maintenance experience preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors when the weather is hot, humid, or cold.
