KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Management/Administrative

  • Contributes to the strategic planning process of the Division by assisting with the development of strategic/operational plans and budget.
  • Develop individual work plan based on alignment with Branch’s Operational Plan.
  • Arranges and participates in meetings, seminars and conferences as required.
  • Prepares Annual/Quarterly and Monthly Reports as required.
  • Establish and maintain a system that fosters a culture of teamwork, employee empowerment and commitment to the Division’s and organization’s goals.

Technical

  • Conduct sensitive inquiries as directed by the Director of Investigations.
  • Conduct thorough investigation/research and prepare credible evidence submissions.
  • Prepare written reports, findings and recommendations and comments on investigations.
  • Review internal/external written reports of investigation.
  • Review applications, personal history, statements (and other documents, as required to determine suitability) for completeness.
  • Analyze investigations results and draw logical objective conclusions.
  • Liaise with law enforcement when necessary to get assistance during an investigation.
  • Record all findings result and data related to investigations and share information with the Director of Investigations.
  • Prepares technical investigative reports.
  • Develops and maintains the complaints and investigative database.
  • Organize evidence and material for possible use in a court of law.
  • Flag and monitor cases that demonstrate some of the characteristics of potential breach.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database on cases arising from complaints and investigations.
  • Preview customer complaints and respond to questions asked.
  • Communicate with members of the public on the Authority’s policies and procedures.

Human Resource Responsibilities

  • Participates in administrative and Human Resource processes.
  • Provides leadership through the development of employee performance targets and standards and motivates staff to optimum performance levels.
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of direct reports, prepares performance appraisals and recommends and/or initiates corrective action where necessary to improve performance and/or attain established personal and/or organizational goals.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to direct reports through effective planning, delegation, communication, training, mentoring and coaching.
  • Assists in recruitment and training of new investigators.
  • Communicates general information concerning projects under management to colleagues and staff within the Authority.
  • Manages/ensures that staff are aware of and adheres to relevant policies and guidelines.

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS/INDICATORS

  • Case files prepared within the established timeframe.
  • Database contains credible, reliable and valid information and updated in accordance with agreed timeframe.
  • Sensitive and high-profile cases are conducted as necessary and in keeping with the FLA Act.
  • Concluded investigations are in keeping with requirements and completed in agreed timeframes.
  • Evidence presented within agreed timeframe.
  • Reports are accurate and completed within agreed timeframe.
  • The extent to which confidentiality, integrity and sensitivity are displayed in the execution of duties.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Technical Competencies

  • Excellent knowledge of the Firearms Act and Regulations
  • Good knowledge of the use of Firearms
  • Good knowledge of relevant computer applications
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc. degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice Law
  • Two 2 years’ supervisory experience
  • Training in the conduct of security investigations
