The Assistant Legal Counsel provides legal advice on the Bank's operations, drafts and reviews legislation and contracts, represents the Bank in litigation, and attends regulatory meetings and seminars.

 

CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide legal advice on matters arising in connection with the Central Bank’s core functions and operations, including reviewing and drafting contracts related to procurement.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and interpreting legislation, policies and other legal instruments in association with the Office of the Attorney General, and others.
  • Represent the Central Bank, (with appropriate support, where necessary or required) in any litigation to which the Central Bank is a party.
  • Represent the Central Bank at domestic and international meetings and seminars, such as those related to bank regulatory and anti-money laundering issues.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Counsel and Attorney-at-Law.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing law, preferably in financial regulation, banking law or a related field.
  • Experience advising on international legal, banking policy matters and enforcement actions within the financial services sector is desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of banking or corporate laws and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in drafting contracts and agreements.
  • Knowledge of legal drafting principles and practices, legal research skills and techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Sound analytical and decision-making skills.
